Restoril 15 mg is a specific dose of Restoril medicine. How Long can Restoril Stay in the System?

After oral administration, Restoril (temazepam) is very well absorbed in an individual’s system from the gastrointestinal tract. It can take up to 45 to 60 minutes to feel the effects. However, taking a higher dose of Restoril may result in rapid absorption with the peak drug levels in the blood achieved at 2 to 3 hours.

The temazepam drug present in each Restoril 15 mg capsule has a half-life of 8 to 9 hours and is excreted with a half-life of approximately 2 hours. Within 24 hours of taking a dose of Restoril medicine almost 80% to 90% of the drug is recovered from an individual’s system. The drug is primarily excreted out via urine and feces.

Restoril 15 mg Dosage for Insomnia

Restoril (temazepam) is indicated for the symptomatic relief of transient and short-term insomnia found among adults. This can be characterized by difficulty in falling asleep, frequent awakening at night times, or early morning awakenings. Sleep disturbance can induce several physical and psychiatric disorders. Consequently, a decision to initiate symptomatic treatment of insomnia should only be done after the patient has been carefully and thoroughly evaluated by an authorized physician or doctor.

While the generally recommended adult dose is 15 mg of Restoril to be taken before bedtime. A Restoril 7.5 mg capsule may be sufficient for some patients, and others may even require a Restoril 30 mg capsule. In case of transient insomnia, a 7.5 mg dose of Restoril may be sufficient enough to improve sleep latency. But in elderly or debilitated patients, it is recommended that treatment be initiated with 7.5 mg of Restoril until individual responses and effects are not determined. Generally, Restoril 15 mg is indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia that should last for 7 to 10 days.

Precautions

Restoril And Pregnancy

Drug Interactions

Restoril may readily interact with fluvoxamine, itraconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, and many other medicines to induce various negative effects. Consequently, Restoril 15 mg medicine may produce additive CNS depressant effects when coadministered with alcohol, sedative antihistamines, anticonvulsants, or psychotropic medications. Compounds that inhibit certain hepatic enzymes tend to enhance the activity of benzodiazepines in an individual’s system.

Restoril 15 mg Abuse and Dependence

An individual can form a habit of using Restoril 15 mg when he/she is using a higher dose for a longer time. Although patients provided with a therapeutic dose for as few as 1-2 weeks can also show withdrawal symptoms after discontinuation. The risk of dependence is significantly high in patients with a history of alcoholism, or drug abuse. Interdose daytime anxiety and rebound anxiety may also increase the risk of dependency in patients using Restoril.

Severe withdrawal symptoms are usually associated with higher dosages and longer usage of Restoril 15 mg. Hence, abrupt discontinuation should be avoided and a gradual dosage tapering schedule must be followed.
